Here's what happened

This is what i ended up with... the "final product."

The drawing bottom left you can see a basic floor plan. Springing out from that floor plan is an axon showing a specific location where the man and nature slide past each other.  To the right you see three minimalistic sections to show the space that is created.

My drawdel this was my biggest struggle. it was hard for me to think about. Actually i was just over thinking it NOT good!!! but in the end i think it cam out pretty ill. I will up load a picture of the reverse side which is also pretty cool tomorrow in the studio.

This was the most time consuming one but i think its my favorite!!!! I love that the chip board stayed in the plaster in stead of pealing out. I immediately loved it so i kept it in. I thought my professor, Luis, was going to not like it because its a bit additive and we are dealing with the exhumation of architecture. Turns out he liked it!!! so happy!!!

This is the wire drawing which is  pretty awesome i think. You get to see these two transition places and what happens in between... the interaction between the different floor objects and how he oppose each other.

This one i just added for fun... and the to see the wire on its side looking like a model.

The criticism in the critique was very constructive. No one ever said you did this wrong it was what could be done to make it better or what other drawings could you add to enhance the presentation!!!!

Luis said he was pleasantly surprised and kind of angry.... he wanted to see more process from all of us!!! understandable.

Something to look at

Progress

Drawdels?  What did you just say in some language i don't know? Drawing with out Paper?
That defiantly makes more sense!!! Plaster? Wire?

These are some of the practices i did. there were tons of them but  here are just a few that helped me get to the final product

A new way of thinking

Make a Drawdel he says???
Drawing + Model

Started out thinking what the heck am i supposed to do???
looked at a bunch of different i loved the stairs but that was kind of shut down so i cam up with this.

I looked at the point where man meets nature. There are points where man encloses nature and points where nature encloses.

Orange = man
Green = nature

I thought it was a different way of seeing it rather than man versus
nature man and nature holding each other.

I made a few collages to start the project off so i could better see the moments that i was studying.

Fail blog

I am working on mapping in studio this is the model mold. This is what I call an epic fail. It didn't work!!!!! It took me forever to cut out all those prices and only for them to not work together. All the wax i poured in draped right back out!! Where I went wrong:
1 . Using that dreadful foam. It made the model huge. It was so thick if the cast did work there would be no way that the 4 pound block if wax was gonna fill it... Oh and the foam made a mess.
2 . Hot glue. I did not take into account that when pouring the wax it would heat up the glue and break the bond.

3 . The tin foil was not the smartest thing. It needed to be pieced together
an that allowed the wax to get through it an ruin the foam.

4 . The details were to subtle and the levels were to grand!!! The little things that made the picture work were covered up by the tin foil and the levels blend together.

Over all I think I'm going to switch and use plaster and make the mold a whole lot thinner!!!

A Silhouette of Loneliness

The book turned out interesting. From the previous book carving post i change the concept of the room. After talking to my professor I looked at a bunch of paintings that the main theme is Loneliness. The artists included; Edward Hopper, Michael Endo, Eric Fischl, Jon Currin, and Tolouse Lautrec. After seeing these works I took a new approach. I would carve multiple rooms but only one has windows to the outside.

The book it's self is very difficult to cut through especially when you have to go through every page and the blade won’t go down that far. The only real complication was that the blade was to short and my hand started hurting. When making the person i couldn’t figure out how to do it I tried soaking paper in water and glue and about 10 other ideas on how to make this person. In the end I carved out a silhouette and placed them by the interior window. I carved 3 paths of entry into the book. One to look through and the other 2 to allow light into the dugout space.

I liked this exercise. It was pretty cool except for the whole painful thing. Its weird to think this is going to help me to design a better building, but after completion of the book its easier to understand. You need to open your mind up and look at things in a new light. I like my book because it was different than everyone else’s in my studio While everyone opened the book and viewed it from front to back or back to front but mine flipped it on its side and went side to middle!

Here are some more photos of it. You can see into the book and look at the scene and the shadows it creates.

Some Review Comments:

No identification with the book so I had no problem cutting it.

We thing of subtraction as a negative (bad) idea.

What was that about?

To take a break from our day to day assignment we took a look at the poem A Throw of the Dice. The piece is confusing, its random! The poem can be interpreted in many way the are inconsistencies through the font the text the organization of the piece. That really resonated with me. I read the piece many times, different every time, reading it through its inconsistencies. After that I went through the article and found words that had no consistent theme, they were in a sense random. I then cut the words out flipped the pages. I gave different depth to each word by glueing all the pages together and cutting through the top layers until the word i selected was revealed. My price evokes confusion in viewer. If I had to pick one word to describe my project It would be Inconsistencies!
